A note from Ruth Mooney

Dear friends in Christ,
As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, I want to thank you again for
your faithful support of my ministry both in prayer and in gifts.
Several important changes are in the wind, which I would like to tell you about. First, I
will be returning to the US this spring for a year of mission promotión. I plan to be living
in Minneapolis. During that time, I would be glad to have the opportunity to visit you.
Second, my ministry will be changing. Ediciones Lumbrera, the publishing ministry that I
have been directing in Costa Rica for the past 10 years, will be closing in April. The
Federación Bautista, our Costa Rican partner and the umbrella organization of Lumbrera,
made the decisión to end this ministry. They are concerned that our efforts to become
self-supporting have not been successful, and that some of our key editors and sales
people have been called to other ministries, leaving us with an unmanageably small team.
We are understandably sad to see the end of what has been for us a passionate vision for
transformation. But at the same time, we praise God for the personal growth in faith and
skills that we have developed and for the contributions that we have made to the Reign of
God. In these 10 years, we wrote and published a total of 55 books, taught 7
writers´courses, trained hundreds of Sunday school teachers, introduced into Costa Rica
serious Christian literature from 5 Latin American publishers, and distributed our
materials throughout Costa Rica to over 30 denominations and in 17 countries throughout
Latin America. Our materials have provided quality Bible studies with dynamic teaching
methods that invite Christians into a more holistic, committed, active faith that can make
a difference in their lives, churches, and communities. All this has been possible through
the grace of God and your support.
I am still seeking God´s plans for me for the future. I ask for your prayers in this process,
and will keep you informed.
My principal task on “home assignment” this year will be to establish my Mission
Partnership Team (MPT). As you may know, International Ministries has opted for a new
system of missionary support in which missionaries, together with their MPT, are
responsible for raising their salary. I would like to invite you to consider continuing your
support of my ministry by transferring your gifts from “specifics” to “targeted“ that will
go directly to my salary.
Again, I thank you, and hope to see you in the course of this year.
Warmly in Christ,
Ruth Mooney
